  • 6 cups sliced apples Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor balance.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Cobbler Batter Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until apples are well coated.
  • Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Batter Preparation

  • In another bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Pour the melted butter and buttermilk into the dry ingredients, and mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter over the apples, spreading it evenly.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm from the oven, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to a week. Reheat in the oven at low temperature.
