  • 1 medium pumpkin (about 2-3 pounds) Choose a smaller pumpkin for a more decorative finish.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree Use fresh pumpkin puree for more intense flavor, or canned for convenience.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adjust spices to suit your taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger Add more ginger for a spicier kick.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Whipped cream (for topping) For serving.
  • A decorative ribbon or bow For presentation.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cut the top off the pumpkin and scoop out the seeds and stringy insides.
  • In a bowl, mix the sugar, pumpkin puree, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt.
  • Gradually mix in the flour and baking powder until fully combined.
  • Pour the batter into the pumpkin, filling it about three-quarters full.

Baking

  • Place the pumpkin in a baking dish and add about an inch of water to the dish to help steam the pumpkin as it bakes.
  • Bake for about 60-75 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the pumpkin to cool slightly before carefully removing it from the baking dish.

Serving

  • Garnish with whipped cream and tie a decorative bow around the stem of the pumpkin.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature, cut into slices for guests to enjoy.

Notes

To store leftover pumpkin, wrap it in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. Keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze sliced pumpkin for up to a month.
