  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • Red food coloring Use gel for more vibrant color.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients.
  • Slowly add the hot water to the batter and mix well. The batter will be thin.
  • Add a few drops of red food coloring to achieve your desired color.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  • Once the cake is completely cooled, frost it with your favorite icing, such as cream cheese or buttercream. Decorate with sprinkles, edible glitter, or fresh fruits before serving.

Notes

Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Cover with plastic wrap to prevent drying out.
